I’m writing some notes on general comedy theories, and mistakenly put Freud under ‘Incongruity Theory’. I laughed because:
a) I had made a mistake and felt superior to myself
b) it was incongruous with reality or
c) my mistake provided cathartic relief, such was the tension surrounding my note-taking.
Give up? It’s actually secret answer d) I didn’t laugh. It wasn’t funny. It was a waste of a perfectly good post-it.
